Résumé

Introduction

To evaluate the early results of the Sinusoidal Trifocal Acriva Trinova intraocular lens (IOL) implantation and cataract surgery used to improve uncorrected distance, intermediate, and near visual acuities.

Patients et Methodes

16 eyes of 8 patients who underwent Cataract surgery and Sinusoidal Trifocal Acriva Trinova IOL implantation from June 2018 to November 2018 were included. The mean age was 63.3 years (50 to 72 years). Mean follow-up durations was 7 weeks. A complete ophthalmological examination was performed before and after the surgery; including uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected near (UNVA) and intermediate (UIVA) visual acuity obtained with Jaeger optotypes, intraocular pressure, manifest refraction, amount of corneal astigmatism, corneal endothelial cell count, corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, axial length. Additionally, all fundus examinations including ocular coherence tomography were completed and any macular and vascular conditions were excluded.

Résultats

3 male, 5 female patients all included to the study. Mean corneal thickness was 503.4 microns and mean endothelial cell count was 2379.5 per mm2 before the surgery. Intraocular pressure before was 13.68 mmHg (12 to 17 mmHg) and 13.66 mmHg (12 to 17mmHg) after the surgery.  Preoperative corneal astigmatism was -0.56 D (-0,12 to -1,00 D), manifest astigmatism was -0.65 D (0,00 to -3,00 D). UDVA was 0.5 (0.2 to 0.9) before the surgery and improved to 0.8 (0.7 to 1.0) at the first week post- operatively. Post-operatively uncorrected near vision was 1.28 (1 to 2) Jaeger and UIVA 1.71 (1 to3). All patients were satisfied with the final visual acuities and none of the patients need spectacles. There was no serious complications.

Discussion

Acriva Trinova is the next-generation sinusoidal trifocal IOL designed with stepless zones. This Sinusoidal Vision Technology (SVT) promises continuous vision at all distances, as opposed to common traditional overlapping diffraction pattern trifocal IOLs with sharp edges. According to our initial experience, Acriva Trinova has good visual outcomes at all distances initially at our low myopic and low astigmatic patients.

Conclusion

Acriva Trinova seems to provide an effective restoration of visual function. It’s an innovative lens introduced to the trifocal lens family. Patient tolerance and quality of life is excellent as vision without spectacles is provided.
